TRA logoThe Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been established according to the UAE Federal Law by Decree No. 3 of 2003 – Telecom Law. TRA is responsible for the management of every aspect of the telecommunications and information technology industries in the UAE. Despite its relatively short life-span, TRA has exceeded expectations by achieving its projected goals in record time.

TRA derives the objectives from the Telecom Law, its executive order and the national telecom policy. These goals ensure secure communications services throughout the State, and delivery of improved services, including the quality and diversity, and ensure the quality of services in conformity with the terms of the license by the licensor, and the promotion of telecommunications services and information technology in the state, and the promotion of the telecommunications sector and development of the country through training and development and the establishment of training institutions relevant to the sector, as well as to find solutions to disputes that may arise between the licensed operators, and establish and implement a framework for policies and regulations, and the promotion of modern technology, and contribute to the development of human resources in the state, and to promote research and development, including guarantees of the United Arab Emirates a regional role of an advanced leadership in the field of telecommunications and information technology.

 

ICT Fund logoThe ICT Fund was established by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in 2007, the first of its kind in the Middle East, to achieve rapid and tangible developments in the ICT sector in the UAE. The ICT Fund seeks to create a culture of entrepreneurship within the ICT sector and to improve links with the academic community. The ICT Fund, which is the funding arm of the TRA, provides the necessary resources to accelerate results and introduce the impact of ICT innovation on the region, underpinned by a firm conviction that technology is the creative engine of all new opportunities, with the aim of enhancing UAE nationals’ participation in the field of scientific and technological research.

The ICT Fund is testament of the UAE's commitment to innovation and progress by providing innovative R&D projects within the UAE ICT sector, as well as supporting education and training in ICT.

Abu Dhabi TCA

Ankabut is the United Arab Emirates’ Advanced National Research and Education Network (NREN) offering academic institutions connectivity to other education networks around the world; is an initiative of Khalifa University. In addition to connecting universities, Ankabut can connect schools and public institutions together across the UAE with an effective cost model. Ankabut also co-operates on a national, GCC, regional and international arena representing the UAE in conferences, exhibitions and forums. Ankabut aims to offer QoS based networks with IPv4/IPv6, multicast and introduce advanced services on a “Closed Group Network” with “Public Interest Purposes”.
